This is two questions
What is your favorite interval between 2 notes (your not restricted to 1-8 it could be 9 or 11 or anything) What is your favorite interval between two chords in the same or not in the same key? Forgot to ask and Why? |

Perfect fifth
It's the most stable interval and the Beginning of Star Wars. |

My favorite interval has to be the major seventh - sounds great, and the bare tritone is far overused in contemporary music today.
As for polychords, I'm a huge fan of major-second polychords, although the aforementioned tritone sounds GREAT in winds/brass. I use M2's more, so that's my final answer. |

Out of habit, I find myself throwing in and resolving suspended fourths a lot. Lately I've been doing a lot of seconds.
... FWIW, Star Wars first interval is a first, the first jump is a fourth (G - G - G - C -G - F - E - D - C - G - F - E - D - C - G - F - E - F - D). Star Trek's first two intervals are fourths. (C - F - Bb then A- F - D - G - C, so there are two more fourths after the reverse arpeggio of the Dm chord.) |

Favourite interval, eh? Let's see.... I like fourths. I like the "weirdness" of it. Use it a lot for harmonies and especially counter-melodies in the little tunes I write. Also like the ninth, for the dissonance.
Intervals between chords... Hmmmm, a bit more tricky... I use a lot of weird chords like a D Major with the added ninth(there's that nine again!)... Maybe an F Major w/ the ninth to a C Major? Gives a rather empty, hollow sound that really wants to resolve, and then goes to something nice and full and happy sounding. Keeps you on your toes. Either that or I'm just weird ;) Good question! You get a star! |

As a harmonic interval, I like the major 7th because of its piquancy, and its use in a number of juicy chords.
As a melodic interval, I find I use a lot of rising perfect 4ths and since I am a fan of the lydian mode, I also use a rising augmented 4th with frequency. (love that dominant sharp 11 chord). 2 major chords set a tri-tone apart (the "Petrushka") sound has a satisying color to me. Sometimes it's not the distance between the roots, but the spacing and inversion of the chords that creates its special character. F'rinstance, in the "Rite of Spring", Stravinsky uses a root position E major chord, with a 1st inversion Eb7th superimposed over it . (the famous "Stomping Dance"). Listen to the difference if both are in root position. Totally different color. |

I like the augmented sixth, because you'll hear it and think it's a minor seventh, but then it'll resolve differently.
Favorite interval between two chords? I like two chords a major third apart where the lower chord is minor and the higher chord is major. (c minor to E major) |

Being entirely facetious, any when the bar is accessible.
